Survey of
buildings and plant to determine adequacy of the practical aspects
of fire precautions - means of escape, fire protection equipment,
staff procedures etc. Fire risk assessment as required by the
Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and 1999.
Qualified and/or quantified approach adopted as appropriate.
Guidance on optimal fire protection solutions. Negotiation
with local authority fire brigades.

Training of
staff in action to be taken in the event of fire.
# Documentation
Preparation,
editing and review of fire safety management plans, fire safety
cases, fire safety standards, fire safety guidance documents, and
fire protection equipment specifications.
# Halon
replacement
Review of halon
systems and advice on need for replacement. Identification of
best alternative (where necessary).
# Research and policy projects
Specialist
research on fire safety topics. Preparation of background
reports as an aid to decision making in fire safety policy.
# Nuclear
fire safety
Advice as to
appropriate fire protection in the special circumstances of active
and decommissioning nuclear plant. Fire hazard analysis.
EXPERIENCE
FS CONSULTING was set up
by Frank Smith, BSc, MIFireE,
MIFS, MSFPE, MBEng who has over 20 years
experience working on a wide variety of projects in fire safety and
fire safety engineering. Before establishing FS Consulting, he
was a fire safety engineering consultant with major consultancies,
AEA Technology, Warrington Fire Research Consultants, and consulting
engineers Ewbank Preece. Before that he worked for the Fire
Protection Association as a technical information officer and as
editor of the journal Fire
Prevention.
He has published numerous articles and papers on
fire safety subjects and is a member of British Standards committees
on fixed fire fighting installations, fire detection and alarm
systems, and fire safety engineering. He is a member of
the Institution of Fire Engineers (by examination), the Institute of
Fire Safety, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the
Association of Building Engineers.
Where
necessary, additional expertise is provided by
specialist consultants acting in an associate capacity to FS
Consulting. By complementing in-house experience and skills,
this policy enables clients to obtain the best possible fire safety
engineering advice.
PEER REVIEW AND INSURANCE
Further associates are
involved in the peer review of FS Consulting reports. Such
review is considered to be an integral part of ensuring the highest
quality for clients. In addition, the consultancy
carries full professional indemnity insurance. |
